As we develop Health Benefit Guides as mobile apps, we have clients asking for the ability to have users “login” to see custom content. This is an interesting challenge since Como doesn’t have a native registration process that is persistent – meaning, the app user cannot simply login to the app and from that point forward have the app “remember” them.
Our Benefit App clients support large employer groups with various types of employees who get different benefits. So, a union worker may get a different set of benefits than a non-union worker; or an hourly employee may have a different benefit package than an salaried employee. Many times these packages are published as PDF files, and the question asked of AtlanticMobileApps is how do you provide this login functionality within the Como platform.
Our approach is to use a Web tab that links to an online responsive form where we ask for a user’s ID and a PIN number. An ID is any value assigned to the person – it can be unique or a classification like “Executive” or “Hourly”, and the PIN number is again a unique or not unique value provided to the employee. When you enter this combination of ID and Pin, our system confirms the pair, drops a cookie to the mobile device browser, and serves up the appropriate document (file name) to the app user. Sine we drop a cookie, each time the user comes back to that web tab, they are immediately served their file. If the file changes, the new file is sent to the user.
Our clients simply provide a spreadsheet of authorized users (First Name, Last Name, email address, ID, PIN, File Name). We maintain this in our secure database (Salesforce.com), and have a nice way of tailoring a Como-based mobile app to specific app users needs. We can use this process for many needs and look forward to speaking with you about your needs.
